MARINE SURVEY SERVICES:
CONDITION AND VALUATION SURVEY (CVS): Generally known as the insurance survey this is a several hour inspection which estgablishes the basic condition and value of the vessel, and is for underwriting purposes only.

YACHT LISTING / REPAIR SURVEY (YLR): This inspection takes a bit longer than a CVS and the intent is to find out everything that needs to be repaired on the vessel, what is not functioning, what needs to be brought up to the latest standards. etc. Owners use this survey to prepare for shipyard overhauls. Listing brokers use this survey to prepare the vessel for re-sale.

PRE-PURCHASE SURVEY (PPS): This inspection takes about the same amount of time as the YLR, but is done for the prospective buyer instead of the current owner. The purpose is the same as the YLR with the added caveat that the b uyer intends to discount the asking price by the value of the necessary repairs found by the surveyor.
