BOATER TRAINING

INLAND BOAT SKIPPER CERTIFICATE: This is the basic "HANDS ON" boat handling instruction course, required by many insurance companies. Usually it involves 12 to 16 hours of one on one instruction underway aboard your vessel learning how to maneuver your vessel. Capt. Hugenot coaches you teaching you expert technique and nothing you don't need. 


TAKE A MINI-VACATION OUTSIDE THE GOLDEN GATE:  Learn to master coastal power and sailboat handling skills while cruising o  your own boat for four days and three nights in the Gulf of the Farallones off Central California's beautiful Redwood Coast. This is the course to take after you earn the INLAND BOAT SKIPPER certificate.


Learning sailing outside the Golden Gate with one of the most seasoned delivery skippers on the north pacific coast with over 30 years of teaching boating. Get hands on practice in line handling and dockside maneuvering, anchoring, coastal piloting, chart work, GPS, radio, weather, crossing hazardous bars, emergencies, engine operation & maintenance.


You graduate from this course with a COASTAL BOAT SKIPPER certificate. 


Captain Hugenot, is certified by the American Sailing Association as a Coastal Cruising, Chartering & Navigation Instructor.

LEARN WITH A SEASONED SKIPPER:

Captain Hugenot has over 35 years experience and is a USCG Licensed Master of Inspected Small Passenger Vessels, Steam, Motor or Sail for all U.S. and Foreign Waters under 200 tons (less than 150 ft in length). He has sailed offshore on the U.S. Atlantic, and Gulf coasts from Maine to Yucatan, and on the Pacific Coast from Seward, Alaska to Baja California. 


HE IS A CERTIFIED BOATING INSTRUCTOR: He has taught safe boating to adults for over 30 years, and has 20 years experience as the Sailing Master aboard offshore sail training vessels including coastal service aboard traditional Gaff Ketches and Schooners.

COASTAL SKIPPER TRAINING, SH-103:
Learn what you need to know to skipper your boat outside the Golden Gate, and down to Southern California or up to Puget Sound while taking coastal cruises from Bodega Bay to Monterey. The training takes place off San Francisco’s Redwood Coast, in the beautiful Gulf of the Farallones, A great vacation even without the advantage of the coastal skipper training.


THE FOUR DAY (3 - NIGHT)  CRUISE

DAY 1: The cruise begins in the early evening departing from the East Bay and transiting to the  evening’s anchorage in Richardson Bay off Sausalito. Crew gets acquainted and begins video and hands on study of proper anchoring technique and the Golden Gate Crossing.

 

DAY 2: The motor yacht departs from San Francisco through the Golden Gate with a passage north to Drake’s Bay. Piloting, chart work and GPS before again anchoring the vessel for the night. Evening video’s include marine mammals and birds in preparation for trip through Farallon Islands in the morning. (see article A)

 

DAY 3: This daylight passage southwest through the Farallon Islands, 30 miles offshore, with Stellar Sea Lions, Dolphins, Minke, Hump-Backed, and Gray Whales, thousands of sea birds. Then at Half Moon Bay, where you will dock for the evening. You may choose to celebrate “graduation” at a restaurant ashore. (See article B)

 

DAY 4: The following morning the yacht gets underway early for the return through the Golden Gate to San Francisco Bay.

 

GRADUATION: includes a competency certificate as a COASTAL BOAT SKIPPER (see certificate).

INLAND BOAT SKIPPER, SH-101: This introductory powerboat handling course, includes dockside maneuvering, line handling and safety, all taught in a totally hands on setting. Captain Hugenot coaches you through all the operations necessary to operate your boat including
