CAPTAIN HUGENOT is an experieced Naval Architect, Marine Surveyor and Super-Yacht operator who has served as master of INSPECTED PASSENGER VESSELS  up to 185 ft (56 meters), with 1000 passengers, who now brings all this experience to his clients as a yacht broker.


    After 27 years as a Member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) he is now their National Chairman of the Motor Yacht Panel for the Small Craft Technical Committee. And also chairs the annual SNAME Small Craft Design Contest serving as chief judge.


    He also currently serves as an advisor to the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) Project committees on Marine Electrical and Hull Piping, writing standards for pleasure yacht construction.


    For eight years he previously served as a principal member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Marine Fire Boat Committee. writing standards for Fire Boat Construction.


    During 2005-2007 he served as expert consultant to the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) on Motor Pleasure Yachts built to ABS Class and in compliance with British Commonwealth Standards for Large Charter Yachts MCA-LY2.


    Today, as a Yacht Broker his clients rely on his extensive experience with motor yachts as they make important decisions.


NAVAL ARCHITECT:

Capt. Hugenot has over 35 years experience in the prototype design,  operation, new construction, and repair of motor yachts, commercial and naval small craft, coast guard cutters, passenger ferries, tugboats, ocean tankers, container ships, pleasure small craft and super-yachts, including all shipboard HVAC, piping, electrical, and mechanical systems, main propulsion diesels, gas turbines, shafting, reduction gears, bearings, and propellers. Maintaining interference control and resolution, utilizing 3-D modeling programs  Autocad and Ship-Constructor computer modeling programs and designing main control systems for ACCU operations, or C4-I integrated control systems, ABS Motor Yachts and MCA Charter Vessels.

MARINE SURVEYOR:

Capt. Hugenot has been surveying small craft from 26 to 300 feet for over 30 years and is familiar with the structural components of Aluminum, Steel, Fiberglass, Ferro-Cement and all marine woods and construction techniques of each material. He is a trained welder, machinist and diesel engine rebuilder as well as a wood shipwright. He is an Accredited Marine Surveyor (AMS) with the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS), with certification in Yachts and Small Craft..


TECHNICAL EXPERT: 

A recognized technical expert in motor yachts and shipbuilding, he regularly consults as expert witness and expert consultant on vessel operations as well as all of the following yacht construction standards:

  • ABS Motor Pleasure Yacht Guide, 62-MPY2000 (20060
  • ABS Rules for Classing Steel Vessels (SVR)
  • ABS Rules for Classing Steel Vessels under 90 M
  • MCA - LY2 Large Commercial Yacht Code, MSN-1792 amendment 1 (2004)
  • US Code - Title 46 CFR Shipping Sub Chapters C,H,T,K & I


ABS - MCA He served for three years an expert consultant to the American Bureau of Shipping on Motor Pleasures Yachts, intrepreting the ABS Rules on various cuatom Super Yacht designs from Christensen & Trinity Yachts seeking ABS and MCA classification.


NFPA - 1998 - 2006 he served on the NFPA technical committee on Marine Fire Boats. drafting NFPA Standard 1925 - Marine Firefighting Vessels


ABYC - He currently serves in an advisory capacity to the ABYC Hull Piping and Electrical Committees drafting ABYC Standards.


QUALIFED EXPERT WITNESS: Judges in Federal and state courts (CA, NY & WA) have qualified him as EXPERT MARITIME WITNESS and he has delivered expert testimony from the witness stand in court, at depositions, and  written opinions on :

·          Vessel operations crew & passenger safety in personal injury litigation,

·          Navigation forensics, weather, sea conditions and rogue waves

·          Vessel design, safety, and stability in product guarantee litigation.

·          Fair Market Valuation (FMV) and vessel material conditions

·          Forensic investigation of Diesel and gasoline engine failures
